Death By Snu Snu!!

ok, you can already tell it is not going to be a PC post...so if you are muslim, or easily offended just do yourself a favor and move along...

FAIR WARNING***

fine..so S and I have a good friend, Twyla..she married a guy from pakistan and is a converted muslim (she is from Fl). She comes over to our house at least once a week for an extended period of time...usually to do nothing at all but watch tv and hang with "normal" people.

She and S text each other fairly regularly through the day..that is, she texts S and sometimes S responds...Most days I will text her to see if she is working (so I know i can go in for free coffee) or ask her about her plans for when she is coming over that week. nothing major, maybe 4 or 5 txts a day (sometimes more, sometimes none)...and not every day...

Well yesterday she texts me and asked for a phone number to a business that I know...nothing major...then she sends me a text that says her husband thinks her and i text too much and wants to know if he should be worried. I wrote her back today and said that if her husband didnt want me txting her, i wouldn't and that i guess she wasnt allowed to have guy friends (making lite of it, expecting her to say "eh he's a dink, dont worry" or something)...she writes back "must be cultural differences"

SERIOUSLY! this pisses me off on so many levels...first of all, who the hell do you think you are telling another human being who the f@$k they can talk to? it's bad enough you make your women cover themselves from head to toe, just do you dont pop a stiffy in the mosque when habib's 8th wife walks by..but to say you cant txt another man...come on! Secondly, there was nothing going on between us sexually anyway!!! we actually are just good friends... Thirdly, why the hell can't she say "umm look retard, we live in Fl, not mecca, I have friends, deal with it..."

The italian in me wants to say (narration bu Sam L Jackson...) "Look m@#$%r f@#$%r, my people conquered the known world 1000 years before the prophet was born, if I wanted anything of yours I would f@#$ing march in and take it!...Say WHAT again!"

I told S that I really want to have a full on affair with her now just to spite him...damn it, never tell me I cant have something I didn't even want to begin with... (he never has sex with her anyway, so she'd probably enjoy it)

can you tell i'm lit up about this...

gar!

Two hippies pack their four year old son into the family's little Chevette at around dusk and hit the road. They stop at miss piggy's for a pizza and make their way to the Revere Drive-In. The 10 minute drive seemed like an eternity to the little boy. Finally they pulled into a spot and tuned the radio to the right frequency. This was the first time the boy would see a movie on a big screen, and it would leave a lasting impression.

Finally the previews started...and ended...it was time...

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

From those first words I was hooked. Unfortunately I fell asleep just as Luke was escaping the death star. My parents woke me up in time to see the death star run...however, it would be another 6 years before i would see what happened to obi-wan....

The score was the first thing that implanted itself in my brain. Already showing a propensity for music, I was completely taken away by John Williams’ score. I would hum it in my head for the next 27 years. However, more so than the music, the actual look of the film is what captured me. From the twin suns of Tatooine to the trench on the death star...I knew right then that I wanted to make other people feel the way i felt seeing that movie...I wanted to make movies, make the special effects, or just make the stories...but somehow I wanted to be part of the fantasy machine.

From that day on, my life revolved about two things, movies and star wars. My mom (and occasionally dad) would take me to every "good" movie to be released in the coming decade(s)...especially those of spielburg and lucas...From Jaws to Close Encounters, to Indiana Jones...there was something magical about these movies. The ability to transport one's self out of his or her life for 2 hours and into a world where people hung on your every word, the good guy usually won, space travel was easy, and a guy named after a dog found the Ark of the Covenant.

For the longest time, my mom kept in her purse a small cut out from TV Guide, or a magazine, or somewhere (she claimed it to be from the back of a star wars action figure or a mail in)...either way, she carried with her a synopsis of the NINE star wars films and their anticipated release dates. I would often sit down and read it eagerly waiting for the Revenge of the Jedi, or wondering why we never got to see obi-wan and darth vader fight it out in the lava pit...but not so much the thought of the young skywalkers or young solos rebuilding the jedi ranks.

However it came to be, I lusted over that paper as if it told my future...and now...the last piece of the puzzle is finally here. The bridge between what started and what would eventually finish. We know the beginning; we know the end, now it is time to see how it all came to be.

However, in a way, Eppisode III marks the end of childhood. For as long as these movies were never made, I was allowed to daydream and imagine them. But now that they are here, the little 4 year old boy inside me has nothing left to dream about...will he just go away now? I hope not...

I never did get involved in the movies the way i wanted too...and no one will be making a film adaptation of my first 5 books that's for sure...maybe my next book will be different...or maybe the powers that be will decide to make parts 7, 8, and 9..and I can continue to be a kid for that much longer...or maybe I am just to pass this enthusiasm on to my son and daughter, who will be seeing their first star wars movie in a theater tomorrow night.

Either way, a lot will ride on this one movie tomorrow, and a lot will be represented by it. And whatever the outcome there is a four year old boy who is dying to finally see how it all ends...or..umm...began....

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that not only is the new pope a hardcore conservative, but a former Nazi...how ironic is that...the guy was in the Hitler Youth Corps as a kid and now he's pope...oy
